Welcome to The Abstract Library. Now you can electronically store your important journal articles and keep them on your computer, whether it is your Desk top or notebook computer. It is a convenient way to keep the reference literature you need with you when you need it. We hope you find this program useful.

This is Freeware. It was written as part of a comprehensive medical records program. Any constructive comments or criticisms are appreciated. Distribute this program freely, but you must not alter or reverse program the application.

Start Up
In the Abstract Library folder you will find 3 items. The first is the "Abstracts" application, which is the program and looks like the books icon. The next item is the Abstracts.crc files, this holds information that the program uses such as the button icons. Leave this in the folder with the application. If you move it out of the folder the application will not be able to find it. The last item is the "Files" folder. Also leave this in the folder with the Abstract application. This folder contains another folder called "Abstracts". Leave this in the "Files" folder. The program will not be able to find the data files if you move this or change the name. Inside the "Abstracts" folder are documents that contain your data, named Abstracts.idx and Keywords.idx.
Leave this in the folder or the program will not find the information.
To use the program, simply double click on the Abstract book icon. This will bring up the Menu screen. To view your abstracts click on the "View Abstracts" button. There are already 6 abstracts in the files for demonstration purposes. To add a new abstract return to the Menu window, and click on the "New" button.
Abstracts can be obtained from many sources. They can be downloaded from Medline or Paperchase into a text file. You then can copy and paste the information into the file program. The text area will allow you to paste up to 10 pages of text. You can also scan in the text from your journals or fax in the information. You can not download directly into the program. This would take a very complex and expensive program to recognize each field from Medline and know to put it in a particular field.
You can insert 1 graphic or picture per abstract. This can be a table, graph, or picture. It must be in a Pict format. You then copy this to your clipboard. Then open the Graphic window, select the picture area, and paste the picture in the picture area.
Keywords from the abstract will be chosen by you for later reference. To select a keyword, highlight it from the text field and click on the "New Keyword" button or hit the Enter key on your computer. This will automatically write the word (or words up to 45 characters long) into the list. Once you get the hang of it, you can add words in a few seconds with no typing.
